By donating your unwanted items to the local Demelza shop, you can help us raise money for the children and families who are supported by Demelza Hospice Care for Children. Our shops rely your donations to keep the rails, shelves and baskets brimming with saleable items. Having a good supply of stock is essential to make sure that our customers keep coming back for more! Just one bag of assorted clothing and bric-a-brac can raise in excess of £30 when the individual items are sold through one of our retail outlets. Many of the donations we receive do in fact raise considerably more than this, especially if the items are good quality and are in excellent condition. It is quite wonderful to think that those things we no longer want may be just what someone else has been searching for!

It is really easy to donate goods to sell in our shops. Just fill up a bag or box with your unwanted items and take it along to your local shop during normal opening hours (Monday to Saturday between 10am and 4pm is best). A member of staff will take your goods from you and before you know it, your old clothes, bric-a-brac, toys and books will be out on the shelves raising money for Demelza! It really is that simple! If you intend to bring in a large donation, it might be wise to phone ahead, just to make sure the shop has room to accept it on that day!
If you live near to our hospice in Sittingbourne, you can also drop off your donations there. There is ample car parking and a special donation station in the car park. If you need any help unloading, or are unsure of what to do, you can always pop into the reception and ask for advice.
If you live in the Kent area, you may receive a Demelza drop sack through your letterbox. If you do receive one, please try to find something to pop in it, even if it is only a couple of items. The collection day will be marked on the drop sack and someone will be round on that day to collect - come rain or shine!
There is a new Demelza initiative to acquire more donated stock for our charity shops. We now have our very own eye -catching Demelza recycling banks. So far we have set up two Donation Stations in the following locations:
1) Thannington Resources Centre, Thannington Road, Canterbury CT1 3XE 2) St John's Hill Car Park, St. John's Hill, Sevenoaks, Kent TN13 3PE
Our van drivers will be collecting the donations and delivering them straight to our distribution centre where they will be sorted, graded and despatched to the shops.

When you bring in donated clothing it is sorted and inspected carefully for wear and damage. All saleable items are steamed and put out for sale very quickly. Out of season garments are sent to the Demelza Warehouse where they are stored until just the right time. If any items are unsuitable for the shop floor, they are recycled with a reputable rag mechant. Demelza receives payment for this, so absolutely nothing goes to waste! If you have given us electrical items, they will be sent to our warehouse where they are PAT tested to ensure their safety before being distributed to the shops. Bric-a-Brac usually goes straight out on display but sometimes items are saved for a special themed promotion that is coming up in the near future.
Sometimes goods are sent off to one of our other shops where there is more demand for that particular item, so do not be surprised if that lovely leather handbag or collection of books you gave us turns up in another county!
