Family Support Services
The team was formed by merging support services under one umbrella following a review and feedback from parents and other professionals who use us for support.  Support for children/young people and their families beyond the nursing care we provide is an important element of our services.

Vision: To be there for every life-limited and life-threatened child, young person and their family, within our region, as and when they need us.

Mission: To provide a needs led specialist care service to children and young people who are unlikely to reach adulthood.  We support the family as a whole by working in partnership with the local community and professionals to provide choice, an improved quality of life and individual expert care.

Values: We are professional, accountable, inclusive and transparent in everything that we do.

The Family Support Services at Demelza is a multidisciplinary team made up of paid staff and volunteers:

As a team we provide services from our hospice sites and in the family home, as appropriate.  We work jointly with medical staff within our hospices and community team, alongside colleagues from other voluntary and statutory organisations, including Child and Adult Health & Social Care Services.

We hold cultural and spiritual beliefs of each child and family with the highest regard.  As such, we aim to safeguard dignity and respect of each person we support.  We work closely with Community Faith Leaders to ensure spiritual care needs, as identified by the child and/or family, are supported at all times.

Our aim is to work holistically, supportively, and responsively with families living with and caring for a child affected by life-limiting or life-threatening conditions, as well as offering bereavement support.

Demelza Hospice Care for Children is an organisational member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to the Ethical Framework for all our activities.
