What can a company do to support Demelza?

Organise a fundraising activity such as:

  • A charity launch in Children's Hospice Week
  • A corporate dinner for business partners
  • Organising volunteers to paint a Demelza shop
  • A charity race day or quiz night
  • Sponsorship of events arranged by Demelza - e.g. corporate dinner or ball

...Get Your Staff To Do Some Fundraising

, raffles, dress down, job swap days are great ways to engage staff - or why not take part in our Go Dotty Day - where we encourage people to wear polka dots to work and pay a £1. It's a great way to get the whole company involved and have fun at the same time.

...Undertake Some Cause-related Marketing

Linking your project with a charity can be a great way to be seen as a socially aware organisation. This can be done by donating a % of sales of a product or service.

You can help Demelza by encouraging staff to recycle their old mobile phones. Just let us know if you want a recycling box or we can provide envelopes to collect them in. Demelza get a donation for every phone that is recycled with SHP.

...Give Through Payroll and Share Giving

Payroll Giving - by incorporating a Give As You Earn (G.A.Y.E) scheme via payroll employees can give to Demelza every month through their salary, and some companies choose to match-fund this -

Payroll Giving allows taxpayers the chance to donate to the charity of their choice tax free, with the money coming directly out of their salary.

For more information ring the fundraising office on: 01795 845288.

Share Giving
- by making a gift of shares to Demelza it is possible to make substantial savings on Income and Capital Gains tax. Donors giving shares are able to offset their stock market value as a transfer against their personal income -

...Organise and/or Participate In A Sponsored Activity

Through sponsorship, your company can promote a positive image to the people that matter, it is a good way to meet your promotional objectives, and gain coverage where it matters, and can give you the opportunity to entertain clients.

A company can chose to sponsor an event - from the Marathon, Demelza ball, Business Awards (see ad below), Bad Hair day, Go Dotty day or the cycle ride.

We also have an 'adopt a nurse' scheme [more...], where companies can sponsor a nurse at Demelza. This is a tangible way of fundraising and showing charity support.

During the last year we have seen a marked increase in companies who have donated their time and expertise to help Demelza with various projects.

These projects have ranged from general garden work, painting fences and building planters (which involves teams of around 10 people for one day), to more involved projects that have seen between 10 to 70 staff dedicate a week of their time.

These are all tasks which would otherwise have had to be completed by Demelza staff so the cost saving to Demelza has been huge.

On top of this, many of the companies involved have offered some financial support to fund the project where needed.

For example, a team of 10 people from Barclays in Dartford spent two days at Demelza building beautiful planters for our car park and covered the cost of the materials and the plants.

We also saw 77 staff from Wilkinson stores dedicate a great deal of time and effort to organise the children's Christmas party as part of a management challenge.

Recently Sittingbourne-based Knauf Drywall asked for a project for 10 of their management trainees.

We gave them the task of researching corporate volunteering opportunities at Demelza, and looking at the benefits to both Demelza and the company.

They have produced an exciting list of projects and now, when companies enquire, we can offer them opportunities that fall under TV themed headings including: Changing Rooms, Kim and Aggie, Dragons Den, Ground Force and Blue Peter.

...Organise and/or Participate In A Challenge

Staff may want to take part in a Demelza challenge or do a corporate or individual challenge - from skydiving to running. We have Demelza walks, runs, and other sporting and endurance events. As well, as challenges overseas.

Setting up a just giving page ( is a great way of getting people to sponsor you.

...Organise and/or Participate In An Event

Demelza have a number of events during the year for business supporters.

These are a great way of networking and also great for entertaining clients.

These range from golf days and five a side tournaments, to the Demelza Ball and prestigious Business Awards.

The annual Business awards allows Demelza to recognise good community investment from its corporate supporters, by giving awards including outstanding staff fundraising, volunteering, and team work.
