Bereavement Support

Many people work through their loss in their own way and in their own time, often with the support of family and friends. However, we acknowledge that sometimes for a number of reasons, you may seek additional support and we aim to assist you.

We provide a wide range of support and services:

Emotional Support

• Pre-bereavement and bereavement support: one-to-one, couples and group work with children, their families and any significant others.
• End of Life Care planning including funeral plans and wills
• Befriending / Listening Support
• Counselling Support
• Sibling & Peer support: one-to-one, group or support with School
• Adult Support groups - Mums, Dads and Grandparents

Practical Support - (inclusive of funeral planning)
• Participation in internal and external meetings and reviews
• Support to access advocacy support
• Remembrance events, i.e. Bereaved Family Day, Snowdrop event and Annual Candlelight Service.
• Community resources - open to the general public or local professionals who may want help/advice or signposting on to other professionals

We hold cultural and spiritual beliefs of each child and family with the highest regard. As such we aim to safeguard dignity and respect of each person we support. We work closely with Community Faith Leaders to ensure spiritual care needs, as identified by the child and/or family, are supported at all times.

Demelza Hospice Care for Children is an organizational member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and adheres to the Ethical Framework for all counselling skills based activities. All work undertaken is located with relevant clinical and organizational policy frameworks to ensure safeguarding.
